In the 1980s, in Southwest Detroit, the birth of what dying streets bricked up was about to be unleased. Two brothers decided to put their 50 cents into the game. The outcome would bring something the country wasn’t ready for. Two halves formed a whole and it brought BMF, aka Black Mafia Family. Now, thanks to 50 Cent and his production team, their story is coming to Starz in the BMF series.

The series is based on the true story of brothers Demetrius "Big Meech" and Terry "Southwest T" Flenory. Big Meech and Southwest T founded the Black Mafia Family, a drug trafficking and money laundering organization in the United States.

The brothers also got into the hip-hop music business as BMF Entertainment and acted as promoters for several high-profile hip-hop artists. However, BMF Entertainment was also a front-line organization that helped launder drug funds.

"Black Mafia Family" tells the story of the brothers from the beginning in the 1980s.

Among those also set to appear are Russell Hornsby, Wood Harris, La La Anthony, Snoop Dogg, and Eminem, who will cameo as Richard Wershe Jr., a.k.a. White Boy Rick. Hailing from Eminem's hometown of Detroit, Wershe became the youngest informant in FBI history before being arrested at 17 and sentence to life in prison.

BMF stars the previously announced cast of Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr., the son of Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory; Da’Vinchi (The Way Back, grown-ish), Russell Hornsby (Fences, The Hate U Give), Michole Briana White (Dead to Me, She Hate Me), Ajiona Alexus (Empire, 13 Reasons Why), Eric Kofi Abrefa (Blue Story, Fury), Myles Truitt (Black Lightening, The New Edition Story), Steve Harris (The Practice, Diary of a Mad Black Woman), with Arkeisha “Kash Doll” Knight and Wood Harris (Empire, Creed). La La Anthony (Think Like a Man) and Serayah (Empire, Favorite Son) are both set as recurring guest stars.

News first broke that Starz picked up the BMF series in spring 2020. 50 Cent has been working on the crime drama for about two years now. Then in July of 2020, he enlisted music sensation Raphael Saadiq to work on the show’s music play list.

Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson is executive producer on the series. The same goes for Randy Huggins ("Power"), who also acts as a showrunner and author. Tasha Smith ("Empire", "Power") will direct several episodes and also act as executive producer. The production team for the series is completed by Terri Kopp, Anthony Wilson and Anne Clements.

BMF premieres Sept. 26 on Starz.
