With fall comes EA Sports’s soccer juggernaut, an annual release more widely celebrated around the world than even the venerated Madden. But FIFA Soccer 15 carries with it a heavier burden than the average entry. It comes hot on the heels of the World Cup, April’s 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil for last-gen consoles, and an impressive leap to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with FIFA Soccer 14 last November.

FIFA has done a good job over the last half decade of avoiding regular instances of scorelines that look as though they belong to basketball or American football. To change such a thing now would be to change the nature of an incredibly popular series. Having said that, it's now somewhat easier to score the kind of goals that you'd expect to see in an end-of-season highlight reel. Goalkeepers might be that much better at stopping long shots, but truly outrageous efforts seem to find the twine more often than you'd reasonably expect.



The game's AI tended to boot the ball out of bounds needlessly on moderate difficulties occasionally even dribbling it out to change possession. While that was problematic for my teammates in the single-athlete career mode, it was a game-saver against FIFA 15's cagier CPU opponents. I still managed precise slide tackles, but it seems as if fouls are given out a little more regularly by default. On offense, I found that crosses into the box were more difficult to pull off, but that jogging and shaking an opponent before whistling past them was much easier. As a result, most of my goals came from breakaways and deft one-two passes down the middle of the field as opposed to crosses from the wingers. FIFA 15's offense feels dominant in that way, and satisfying goals are even better with the aforementioned player emotions factored in.

The new hub, which is seamless in design, allows you to quickly navigate between game modes as well as keeps you apprised of all the real news. The usual game-play options are aplenty, too.
